The University of Houston football team wrapped up the spring season by teaching over 150 kids all they know about the gridiron at the annual Youth Experience at Robertson Stadium.
Children went through a series of eight circuits learning each position from the athletes who play it every day. Following a talk from head coach Kevin Sumlin, kids got autographs and photos with the team.
"Its funny because it did this when i was young and I can see myself out there," said linebacker John McIntyre. "I was running as hard as I could, catching all the balls, hitting the big players. I was very impressed with all the girls out here today.
Eleven-year-old Andrez Arellano was already a Cougar fan, but was happy to get out on the field. "I liked playing with the quarterbacks. I come to almost all the games and my favorite player is Case Keenum."
Even the parents benefit from the Youth Experience. Derrick Castleberry, a former Yates HS player on the 1985 State Championship team brought his son D.J. out to the event. "To let him see first hand what its like to be around the college players is very motivational for him. It definitely makes us want to come back to games this fall."
