Volleyball Announces Texas Pride Collegiate Invite Schedule

HOUSTON - The University of Houston volleyball team will continue its spring schedule this weekend when they participate in the Texas Pride Collegiate Invite Saturday in Richmond, Texas.
The tournament at Slater's Sports Zone will include Baylor, Houston Baptist, Lamar, Louisiana, LSU, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Rice, TCU, UTSA, Texas A&M, Tulane, Tulsa and Wichita State.
The Cougars will begin the day with an 8:30 a.m. match against Mississippi State. They will also play Baylor at 10:50 a.m., LSU at 1:10 p.m. and conclude the day against Louisiana at 4:40 p.m.
Following the tournament, Houston will bring its spring schedule to a close with a match at the Athletics/Alumni Center and a trip to Dallas. The Cougars will host a match against Lamar at 10:30 a.m. April 9. The spring schedule ends with a trip to SMU April 16. Teams scheduled to make the trip to Dallas include Ole Miss and Oklahoma.
The volleyball team wrapped up its first season under head coach Molly Alvey in November. She guided the Cougars to a 19-13 overall record and a 13-7 mark in Conference USA, a significant improvement over a 9-23 mark in 2009 and a 6-10 C-USA record the same season.
The Cougars finished third in league action and posted the most conference wins since 1999. Lucy Charuk and Chandace Tryon went on to earn All-Conference USA First-Team honors, while Charuk was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association Midwest All-Region Team and All-America Honorable Mention.
