Seven Cougars Advance to Thursday Night's Finals

HOUSTON - The University of Houston swimming and diving team posted a strong showing in the first morning of preliminaries of the Conference USA Swimming and Diving Championships, Thursday morning at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center.
The 500-yard freestyle started the round of morning prelims, and the Cougars got the day started with a pair of personal bests and third-place finish. Eeson's 4:56.42 has her seeded third in the championship heat. Freshman Heather Winn will also compete for the title as she shaved off nearly a tenth of a second from her personal best time in prelims (4:57.80).
Freshman Laykin Lowry swam her way into the event's consolation finals with her time of 5:02.22. Fellow rookie Emma Nelson also set a career best in the event with a time of 5:21.73.
Sophomore Reka Kovacs made a splash in the 200-yard IM, posting a 2:03.51 to earn third-place and put her into Thursday night's championship finals.
Junior Natalie Newcomb swam a personal best (2:07.86) to enter her into the consolation finals.
Divers Lacey Truelove and Julia Lonnegren are in first and third, respectively in tonight's 3-meter diving championship finals.
