HOUSTON HEAD COACH Todd Buchanan
On the game...
"First, I want to congratulate Coach Curry, her staff and team. I've known her for a long time and have the upmost respect for her. She has done a great job rebuilding Texas Tech Women's Basketball. She told me that I would do the same thing here and rebuild the team. It meant a lot."
On how things started...
"It is frustrating to sit there and watch us self-destruct. Just as Roxana (Button) said earlier, our defense was solid for the first ten possessions. They had a lot of offensive rebounds and just beat us down the floor on transition. It is very difficult to know what we do in practice and not being able to execute that in the game."
On shot selection...
"We went back to the New Mexico State game. We settled. One of the last things I told them before the game was to be aggressive. Everyone has to be versatile. As I said for many years, it is time to play with your heart. Unfortunately it did not work out that way."
On Texas Tech's defense...
"It was good. They are very well coached. They are very aggressive. That is how you pressure the basketball. All of this is an incredible learning curve for our kids. They have a great team. I think they will have another good year."
On positives to take out of this game...
"All these young kids will get valuable minutes of playing time. As much as we try to teach at practice, the only way they are going to learn is if they are thrown out in the pond and forced to swim."
SENIOR POINT GUARD Porsche Landry
Thoughts on the game...
"I feel like we let the game get away from us early. We had a lot of cheap turnovers and weren't taking care of the ball."
On what the team will take away from this game...
"First off, we have to put this game behind us. We bonded better as we played defense. That was probably the best defense we've played overall. We just have to find ways to get more offense."
SENIOR GUARD Roxana Button
On not making shots contributing to getting out of the flow early...
"That contributes a lot. In practice when we're in the flow, we're knocking them down. When we come to a game and we're not flowing then we start taking shots that aren't in our game."
What this does for younger players
"I would like to say that this would fire them up, but only time is going to tell. Practice this week is going to tell how they take this game."
