HOUSTON - The University of Houston swimming and diving team returns to the pool on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 3:00 p.m. for the Red and White Meet. The team will split up into two squads and compete in an intrasquad meet at the Campus Recreation Wellness Center. The meet will consist of two relays, eight individual swimming events and two dives.
For new swimming head coach Augie Busch, this will be the first time he has seen his team compete.
"I'm going to learn a lot about our team at the Red and White Meet," Busch said. "I haven't been able to see anybody compete yet and I think competition brings out the best in everyone. You can only learn so much about the girls during the workouts, I'm just real excited to see them compete against each other and see how they fare."
Returning to the pool for the Cougars are eighteen letterwinners (15 swimmers, three divers). Four newcomers (three swimmers, one divers) join the squad and will get their first taste of collegiate competition at the Red and White Meet.
The meet begins with the 200-Medley Relay and concludes with the 200-Free Relay. The divers will compete against one another in the 1M and 3M events. The swimmers will also face off in a number of short races featuring the 50-Free, 300-IM, 75-Butterfly, 75-Free, 150-Back and the 150-Breast. The longest race of the day will be the 400-Free.
