HOUSTON - The University of Houston swimming and diving program hosts Miami (Fla.) for their first home meet this season. The dual meet is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 21, at 5 p.m. inside the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center.
Head coach Augie Busch led UH to a 3-0 record this past weekend as the Cougars won dual meets in Boston against Boston University, Boston College and Northeastern.
"This weekend was a great experience for the whole team," Busch said. "We won a few meets, challenged ourselves then overcame some obstacles and the entire team bonded, which was awesome. Now we have to prepare for a tougher challenge with Miami coming to town and I'm excited to see how our girls do now that the competition is going to be ratcheted up a couple of notches."
The swimmers were led by Kim Eeson who notched victories in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle on Friday, and another victory in the 50 on Saturday. Heather Winn also turned in an outstanding performance for Houston on the road as she won the 500 and 1,000 free on both days.
The Houston diving team also turned in a terrific performance by taking first, second and third place in all four events over the two meets.
Junior Julia Lonnegren was named the Conference USA Diver of the Week (Oct. 18) following her four-win performance. Freshmen Natasha Burgess and Torri Olanski would have to settle for second and third in the events as the veteran Lonnegren fended off her toughest competition from the underclassmen on her own side.
The meet begins with the 200-medley relay at 5 p.m. and concludes with the 400-free relay. In between the two relays will be nine individual swim races and two diving events.
