HOUSTON - University of Houston sophomore diver Julia Lonnegren capped off a busy week of winning with her first Conference USA Diver of the Week award Wednesday afternoon.
During Houston's training trip in Hawaii, Lonnegren led the Cougar divers to a notable win at the University of Hawaii.
Matched up against divers from eight different schools, including Hawaii, Harvard, Wisconsin and Notre Dame, Lonnegren shined in the 1-meter competition. Her NCAA `A' qualifying score of 284.40 edged out Hawaii's Emma Friesen, who took second at her home pool.
Lonnegren followed up her Hawaii performance with a 1-meter victory against North Texas a week later. Last year's C-USA Freshman Diver of the Year also set a new personal best in the 3-meter competition against the Mean Green. Her score of 326.55 trailed only her All-American teammate Lacey Truelove, who captured first place.
Lonnegren and the Cougars are back in action Jan. 21-22 when they travel to Arkansas to face No. 18 Arkansas on Friday and Arkansas-Little Rock on Saturday.
