LAFAYETTE, La. - The University of Houston golf team returns to action Monday morning when it competes at the 25th annual Louisiana Classics.
The Cougars join a competitive field on the 7,141-yard, par-72 course at Oakbourne Country Club, squaring off against Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, LSU, Memphis, SMU, Southeastern Louisiana, Southern Miss, Texas State, Tulsa, UAB, UALR, New Orleans and host Louisiana.
The 54-hole event tees off with an 8 a.m., shotgun start Monday with the first 36 holes. The tournament concludes with the final 18 holes, beginning at 8:30 a.m., Tuesday.
Houston enters Monday's event less than 48 hours but more than 500 miles from their most recent action. The Cougars finished 14th at the Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas, on Saturday afternoon before heading east to Louisiana.
At that tournament, junior Jackie Lindsey tied for 41st place to the lead the Cougars. The Houston native fired a team-best 69 in the second round for his second sub-par round of 2009-10.
Other Cougars scheduled to compete are senior Beau Davis, juniors Matt Eschenburg and Clark Mitzner and sophomore Eric Adler.
Eschenburg and Lindsey are the only players to have competed in all eight tournaments to date with Eschenburg's 75.65 scoring average standing just ahead of Lindsey's season total.
