Pozdniakova Wins 1-Meter At NCAA Championships

Purdue, Ind. - University of Houston senior diver Anastasia Pozdniakova defended her title Thursday afternoon, winning the 1-meter diving competition at the NCAA Championships at Purdue University.
"It was a pretty close competition and the girls were much better this year than they were last year," Pozdniakova said. "It was so awesome to win."
The senior from Elektrostal, Russia finished the competition with 356.20 points to take the title for the second consecutive season.
Pozdniakova was the NCAA Champion in the event after taking the title in 2009. She was also the runner-up in the 3-meter event and was ninth in platform a season ago.
She will continue competition tomorrow in the 3-meter event. Lacey Truelove, also an NCAA qualifier, will compete in the platform competition on Saturday. The preliminaries will begin at 11 a.m. on both days.
