HOUSTON NOTES l UTEP NOTES l l LISTEN ON-LINE
HOUSTON - A return to the comfortable surroundings of Hofheinz Pavilion will hopefully be the kick start that the University of Houston women's basketball team needs for a return to the win column and Thursday the Cougars will get that opportunity when they host UTEP in a 7 p.m. contest on their home court.
The Cougars enter the contest with an even 13-13 record for the season which includes a 7-6 mark in Conference USA play to place them in a tie for third in the league standings. UTEP (15-12), meanwhile, comes into Thursday's affair just a game back of Houston with a 6-7 conference record.
The game will be the second meeting between the two this season after a showdown in El Paso during the opening weekend of C-USA play. On Jan. 10, Houston was able to earn a 76-67 victory at the Haskins Center for its first win at UTEP since 2002.
During the earlier meeting, Houston's inside outside combo of junior guard Brittney Scott and junior forward Courtney Taylor led the way for the Cougars. Scott paced all scorers with 27 points while Taylor finished with 24 points and 14 rebounds in a double-double effort.
