HOUSTON - The 2010 season is winning down and the University of Houston women's basketball team finds itself in the thick of race for the Conference USA crown as they hit the road for the final time in the regular season with trips to Southern Miss and UCF on tap for this weekend. Houston will face Southern Miss at 7 p.m. Thursday at USM's Reed Green Coliseum in a game that will be nationally televised on CBS College Sports. The road swing continues on Sunday when the UCF Knights and Cougars square off in Orlando, Fla., a game that can be seen on Bright House Sports Network.
The Cougars enter the weekend with a 13-11 overall record after tackling one of the most difficult schedules in school history, but their 7-4 record in C-USA play has got them within reach of the league leaders. Houston will take the court against Southern Miss on Thursday sitting in third place in the league standings a game back of Memphis and Tulane, who top the standings with 8-3 conference records. The Tigers and Green Wave face off against one another in New Orleans on Thursday.
Southern Miss enters the weekend with a 7-17 overall record and a 3-8 league mark, while UCF, which will face Rice on Thursday in Orlando, is 7-13 overall this season and 4-7 in C-USA action.
Houston is coming off a 73-67 road win over SMU in Dallas during their last outing, which came without head coach Joe Curl, who was admitted to a Dallas area hospital after chest pains. Curl will be away from the team again this weekend as doctors have advised him against making the trip.
Calling Thursday's game at Southern Miss for CBS College Sports will be Jason Knapp on play-by-play action and Ann Schatz providing color analysis.
