Track and Field Begins Indoor Season at Reveille Invitational

HOUSTON - The University of Houston track and field squad began their indoor season at the Reveille Invitational in College Station, Texas Saturday afternoon. The Cougars competed against host, and defending men's and women's national champion, Texas A&M, TCU, Baylor, Tec de Monte University.
The meet was hosted at Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium and the Cougars competed in all 11 events. Houston earned two first place finishes, both in the pole vault.
The men's 4x400 relay team placed second in 3:08.52 to set a new school record. The relay team was comprised of Kevin Furlough, Doug Kelly, Joseph Irabor and Errol Nolan. The previous record was established in 1997.
Karley King won the women's pole vault with a 3.81m clearance and Alex Bentley won the men's competition with his 4.98m vault. Both Cougars set meet records with their finishes, Bentley improved on his own meet record he established last year. King's vault was her personal best.
The women's 4x400 relay with Brittany Wallace, Kalyn Floyd, Clarissa Payton and Whitney Harris earned third place in 3:42.34.
Megan Bibbs set a personal best in the 60m hurdles with her 8.96 time to finish third.
Errol Nolan bettered his personal best time in the 60m with his with 6.72 time to clock in at seventh.
John Fortune placed second in the shot put and set a personal best with his 15.73m toss. Wesley Bray and Kevin Johnson also set personal bests in the event with their 13.51m and 11.75m throws to finish in fifth and ninth place, respectively.
The Houston Indoor track and field season takes a break and will resume Jan. 14, 2011 at Yeoman Field House as the Cougars host the Leonard Hilton Invitational.
