HOUSTON - University of Houston women's basketball junior guard Porsche Landry was tabbed the Conference USA Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. Landry earned her first-career weekly honor after averaging 25.5 points, 4.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game to lead the Cougars to thrilling road victories over Louisiana Tech and Oral Roberts as Houston improved to 4-0 for the first time since the 2004-05 season.
Landry tallied a team-high 20 points at Louisiana Tech, highlighted by a 3-of-4 effort from 3-point range. With Houston trailing by 12 points with 9:04 remaining, Landry sparked a 9-0 run with back-to-back 3-pointers as the Cougars charged back to steal the victory.
The Houston native followed up with a career-high 31 points to go with five assists in a 93-89 victory over Oral Roberts on Saturday. Landry played another big role in a defining run by Houston, capping off a 12-2 flurry with a circus shot plus converting the ensuing free-throw. Landry ended ORU's comeback effort by stealing the inbounds pass with less than 20 seconds remaining and icing the game with a free-throw to extend the lead to four points. Landry was 10-of-14 from the field, 3-of-4 from 3-point range and 8-of-9 from the charity stripe against the Golden Eagles.
Landry, a career 29-percent 3-point shooter entering the season, was red-hot beyond the arc in the two contests, hitting six treys on eight attempts. Landry currently ranks second on the team with 18.5 points per game, while tying for the team-lead with 3.5 assists per contest. Landry is shooting 58 percent (7-of-12) from 3-point range, which also leads the Cougars.
