Kazimieruk, Kazakova Advance to Finals at Rice Invitational

HOUSTON - University of Houston women's tennis players Maja Kazimieruk and Elena Kazakova both advanced to the finals of their respective singles flights to highlight play for the Cougars on Saturday at the Rice Invitational in Houston.
Kazimieruk, a sophomore from Poznan, Poland, dropped Tulane's Katie Cecil by a score of 6-4, 6-4 to advance to Sunday's final round. Kazimieruk improved to 4-1 during the fall season with Saturday's victory.
Kazakova will also represent Houston in the singles finals on Sunday after claiming a hard-fought 1-6, 6-4, 7-5 victory over Alex Bradley of Southern Miss. The senior from Moscow, Russia, will face off against Leah Fried of Rice in the final round.
Both Cougar tandems of Bryony Hunter and Giorgia Pozzan and Dionne Sanders and Joanna Kacprzyk suffered defeats on Saturday to end the doubles portion of the tournament.
