Swimming and Diving Falls to North Texas

Denton, Texas - The University of Houston swimming and diving team dropped a dual against North Texas 141-101 Friday night at the Pohl Recreation Center. Despite the team loss, Houston turned in five event wins against the Mean Green.
Anastasia Pozdniakova continued her dominance on the board taking top honors in the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 314.70 and a 397.65 score in the 3-meter event for her second win.
In both diving events Houston took the top four spots. Lacey Truelove took second in the 1-meter (266.10), Julia Lonnegren was third (256.80) and Jessalyn Almond was fourth (254.77). Finishing in second with 311.62 points in the 3-meter event was Truelove, in third was Almond (295.97) and fourth was Lonnegren (264.60). Lonnegren was a second semester addition to the team making her debut against the Mean Green.
Turning in a win in the swimming events was Reka Kovacs. Her time of 2:06.67 was good enough for the win in the 200-yard IM. Beccy Hillis and Natalie Newcomb followed in third and sixth with times of 2:09.97 and 2:15.21. Kovacs added a second win with a 59.13 in the 100-yard backstroke, following in second place was Kimmy Ballo (59.62) and Rachel Johnson finished in seventh (1:08.53).
The Cougars fifth win of the evening came with Hillis' 1:04.91 finish in the 100-yard breaststroke. Olga Bordatcheva (sixth; 1:10.29), Holli Pisarski (seventh; 1:10.47) and Catherine Finley (eighth; 1:15.92) all turned in finishes in the event for the Cougars.
In the 200-yard freestyle, Kimberley Eeson turned in a second place finish of 1:52.18. Turning in a sixth place performance was Bordatcheva (1:58.23) and in seventh was Johnson (2:16.16). Andrea Kells aided the Cougar effort with a fifth place time of 25.87 in the 50-yard freestyle. Teammates Pisarski (26.51), Haley Weathers (26.97) and Finley (28.44) followed in the next three finishes.
Eeson earned another second place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:03.00. Also placing in the event were Bordatcheva (fifth; 5:09.77), Newcomb (sixth; 5:21.08) and Rachel Holcomb (seventh; 5:40.41).
Kells followed that up with a third place finish of 58.46 in the 100-yard butterfly while Holcomb was sixth (1:08.88). Newcomb and Holcomb finished second and fourth, respectively, in the 1,000-yard freestyle with times of 10:50.29 and 11:43.61.
Three Cougars competed in the 100-yard freestyle led by Christine Salinas in fourth (53.82), followed by Weathers in sixth (58.18) and Pisarski in seventh (58.55).
In the relay events, the team of Ballo, Hillis, Kells and Salinas finished second with a time of 1:49.48 in the 200-yard medley relay. Houston was also finished second in the 800-yard freestyle relay. Eeson, Salinas, Ballo and Kovacs combined to finish with a time of 7:46.51.
Houston returns to the pool on Saturday at 1 p.m. for a dual against C-USA rival SMU.
