After an impressive victory at No. 5 Oklahoma State last weekend, awards continued to pile up for the Cougars on Monday.
TOSTITOS FIESTA BOWL NATIONAL TEAM OF THE WEEK
Houston was honored as the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl National Team of the Week for the weekend of Sept. 12. This marked the second time Houston was selected for this award. The other award followed Houston's last victory over a ranked team against No. 23 Tulsa on Nov. 15, 2008. With the victory against Oklahoma State, Houston moved to No. 21 in the AP poll. This marked the first time since 1991 that the Cougars achieved Top-25 status. The Cougars will enjoy another week of being ranked before facing Texas Tech at 8:15 pm, Sept. 26 at Robertson Stadium.
CONFERENCE USA PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Conference USA recognized two Houston players for their outstanding individual efforts following the Oklahoma State game. Case Keenum was named the C-USA Offensive Player of the Week, while cornerback Jamaal Robinson was selected as the C-USA Defensive Player of the Week. Keenum threw for 366 yards and three touchdowns in addition to his 16-yard rushing score. The junior quarterback led his team on an 11-play, 80-yard scoring drive to take the lead for good in the fourth quarter against Oklahoma State. On that game-winning drive, Keenum went 5-of-6 for 55 yards and a touchdown. This marked the seventh time that Keenum received this award. Junior Jamal Robinson added the final score of the game and sealed the victory for Houston on his brilliant interception return of 26 yards. It was the Scwertz native first interception of his career as well as his first touchdown. Tulsa punter Michael Such was selected as the C-USA Special Teams Player of the Week.
In addition to being named the C-USA Offensive Player of the Week and the Walter Camp Foundation Player of the Week, Keenum was selected by Rivals.com as their national Player of the Week.
