HOUSTON - The University of Houston has announced the addition of two more football games to be televised during the 2009 season. The home games versus Memphis on Nov. 21 and the season finale against Rice on Nov. 28 will be shown on Comcast Sports Southwest. Kickoff time for the Memphis game has been set for noon CT and 7:00 pm CT for Rice.
Comcast Sports Southwest (CSS) will debut this year and will provide a new sports channel delivering local college and high school sports coverage for Houston-area athletes and sports fans. Comcast will debut CSS on channel 129 beginning Sept. 1.
The programming schedule on CSS includes other top local sports programming, including Cougar Game Day (Fridays at 6:30 pm CT), with exclusive one-one-one access with second-year head football coach Kevin Sumlin and Tom Franklin, the voice of the Cougars. Each week Sumlin and Franklin provide previews and scouting reports for upcoming opponents and break down highlights and key plays. CSS will also encore Houston games Friday nights at 7:00 pm CT.
"Comcast is delighted to add CSS to our already strong lineup of sports channels available to customers in this area," said Tony Speller, senior vice president for Comcast Houston. "We believe that customers will love the mix of live sports programming, sports news and in-depth sports analysis exclusively geared toward fans in Houston and only available on cable."
"We certainly value our new relationship with CSS and look forward to working with them in the future," UH Director of Athletics Mack Rhoades said.
Eight of the twelve scheduled games this season will be broadcast on television, setting a new UH record, with the possibility of the Mississippi State (Oct. 10) and UCF (Nov. 14) games to be picked up for broadcast at a later date.
