Swimming and Diving Finishes 17th at NCAA Championships

College Station, Texas - Junior Anastasia Pozdniakova, senior Sasha Schwendenwein and sophomore Courtney Forcucci concluded competition at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, while guiding the Cougars to a 17th place finish at the Championships.
In her final swimming event of the Championships, Schwendenwein finished 13th in the 200-yard butterfly prelims with a time of 1:55.90. She went on to take 16th in the finals with a time of 1:57.48. It's the Cougars highest finish in a NCAA swimming event final since Maija Airas finished 12th in the 50-yard freestyle in 1989.
Schwendenwein competed in her first event of the weekend finishing 21st in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:41.73 on Thursday. The time was both a personal best and school record, improving on her school record time of 4:42.58 set at the C-USA Championships two weeks ago.
On Friday, Schwendenwein finished 35th in the 200-yard freestyle prelims with a time of 1:47.15.
Pozdniakova finished first in the consolation finals of the platform diving event scoring 263.15 pointsand Forcucci finished 22nd with 216.70 points.
Pozdniakova won the 1-meter event on Thursday and finished second in the 3-meter event on Friday. By finishing in the Top 10 in all three events, she becomes the first Cougar to accomplish this feat since Linda Pesek did so in 1991.
Forcucci finished 33rd in the 3-meter event and 27th in the 1-meter event.
Houston finished the meet in 17th place with 47 points, marking their highest finish at the NCAA Championships since finishing 17th at the 1985-86 Championship meet.
