HOUSTON - The University of Houston women's basketball team returns to the court at Hofheinz Pavilion this week to put its 10-game home winning streak on the line in a pair of Conference USA match-ups. The Cougars (15-7), who enter the week tied for third in the league with a 7-3 mark, will square off against Tulane at 7 p.m. Thursday before returning to action against UTEP in a Noon contest on Valentine's Day.
The UTEP game will be televised on CBS College Sports as the Cougars make their third national TV appearance this season. Also on Sunday, UH Athletics is hosting "Pack the Pavilion". All fans will be admitted to the contest for only $1 and are encouraged to wear pink to support the fight against breast cancer.
UH's current 10-game home winning streak ranks as the sixth longest such streak in school history. The longest is a 14-game home winning streak that stretched over two seasons from Feb. 2, 1991, to Feb. 12 1992.
The Cougars have gotten a shot in the arm from the resurgence of sophomore center Cobilyn Hill who has averaged 18.3 points, eight rebounds and four blocks over her last four games after getting off to slow start in her second year in the program. During UH's last outing, a win over cross-town rival Rice, Hill poured in a career-high 26 points on 11-of-13 shooting.
Fellow sophomore Courtney Taylor added her 22nd career double-double last Saturday over the Owls, ranking her second on C-USA's list of active career double-double performers.
