Swimming and Diving to Host Cougar Classic Fall Invitational

HOUSTON - The University of Houston swimming and diving team will return to the pool on Nov. 20-22 for the first time in nearly a month when they host the Cougar Classic Fall Invitational at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center Natatorium.
Prelims and finals are scheduled to start at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., respectively, on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, prelims will start at 10 a.m. with the finals slated to start at 4:30 p.m. Teams scheduled to compete at the meet include, Kansas, SMU, LSU, UNLV, Incarnate Word, Tulane, Air Force and Texas A&M.
Live results will be available during the three-day meet. They can be found by going to the swimming and diving schedule page at UHCougars.com. A complete recap of the results will also be available at the completion of each day's events.
The Cougars last competed on Oct. 30-31 in duals against Duke and Georgia Tech and then against UNC Wilmington and Emory. While the scores did not end in the Cougars favor, the capped the weekend with multiple outstanding individual performances. Senior diver Anastasia Pozdniakova set pool records in both the 1- and 3-meter events on both days. Sophomore Beccy Hillis also set a pool record with her 2:16.80 finish in the 200-yard breaststroke at Duke.
The only other competition this fall for UH included wins over Rice and Florida International at the Phill Hansel Duals.
Following the Cougar Classic, Houston will not be returning to competition until a dual at North Texas on Jan. 22, 2010.
