Cougar Football Names Its Players of the Week

HOUSTON, Texas - University of Houston head football coach Kevin Sumlin announced on Monday the team's weekly Player of the Week honorees. A pair of walk ons and a true freshman picked up the Scout Team Players of the Week.
Senior Kenneth Peterson, a former standout at Pearland High School, was named the Offensive Scout Team Player of the Week, while true freshman offensive lineman Jacolby Ashworth, a native of Lufkin, Texas, grabbed the Defensive Scout Team POW accolades.
Redshirt freshman Marc Woods, a walk on running back, was honored as the Special Teams Scout Team Player of the Week.
Last week, Houston honored senior offensive tackle Sebastian Vollmer as the Offensive POW, while a pair of senior defensive linemen, Ell Ash and Tate Stewart grabbed the defensive hardware. Junior wide receiver Tim Monroe and senior safety Stephen James were named the Special Teams Co-POWs.
As for the Scout Team POWs, defensive tackle Creighton Wells (Offense), junior quarterback Andrew Stewart (Defense) and freshman linebacker John McIntyre (Special Teams) were honored.
Houston (1-1) returns to action this Saturday, September 13, by playing host to a first-ever encounter with Air Force. Game time is slated for 2:30 pm at John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium in the nationally-televised contest by CBS College Sports.
