Cougars Conclude Spring With Annual Red-White Game

HOUSTON, Texas - The first spring practice under new head coach Kevin Sumlin comes to end tomorrow at noon, when the University of Houston football teams holds its annual Red-White Game at John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium. Admission is free to the public.
The two-hour scrimmage features a unique scoring system in which both the offense and defense can register points. Offensively, the Cougars can score 1 point for a first down and PAT, 2 points for each play over 30 yards, three points for a field goal and, of course, six points for a touchdown.
As for the defense, scoring can be as follows: 1 point for any defensive stop, 2 points for any three-and-outs on a first possession as well as a fourth-down stop, three points for a turnover and nine points for a turnover that results in a touchdown.
This year's contest is held in conjunction with the 2008 Cougar Fest. UH Athletics is partnering with the Army ROTC, US Army and the National Guard for this first-time event.
The day begins with win an Apache Helicopter flyover and a 5K run and ends with the Cougars taking the field at Robertson Stadium to debut the Sumlin era . In between there will interactive games, including two rock-climbing walls, which get underway at 9 am, to be followed by an Olympic Athlete forum at 10 am in Tailgate Village on the west side of Robertson Stadium. Finally, in a lead up to the noon kickoff of the Red-White game, the Army Golden Knights will sky dive into Robertson Stadium to present the game ball.
During the game the Cougars will recognize former UH football standouts, as well as retired, current and future military personnel. After the game, there will be a free autograph session with the 2008 Cougar Football team and head coach Sumlin.
