HOUSTON - University of Houston divers Ginni van Katwijk and Lacey Truelove capped their 2007-08 seasons in impressive fashion Thursday afternoon when they received Conference USA postseason honors.
van Katwijk was named the league's Diver of the Year, while Truelove was recognized as the Freshman Diver of the Year.
van Katwijk, who was named the team's diving captain in the preseason, earned All-America accolades in platform diving for the second straight season at the 2008 NCAA Championship. The Grootebroek, Netherlands, native, also finished 10th on the 3-meter springboard to claim All-America honors and won the 1-meter championship at the 2008 C-USA Championship.
Truelove competed in her first NCAA Championship in late March and made an immediate impact. The London, Ontario, native finished sixth on the platform with 272.35 points during the finals, the best performance by any Cougar diver at the nation's top collegiate meet.
She finished third on the 1-meter springboard at the 2008 C-USA Championship and won the platform title at the NCAA Zone D meet to qualify for the NCAA Championship.
This marked the seventh straight season that a Cougar was named the C-USA Diver of the Year, and it was the fifth time in the last seven years that a Cougar was honored as the C-USA Freshman Diver of the Year.
Diving head coach Jane Figueiredo was named the league's Diving Coach of the Year for the seventh straight season, and freshman Courtney Forcucci was recognized as the C-USA Diver of the Meet at the C-USA Championship in early March.
SMU's Jennifer Blackman was named the Swimmer of the Year, while Marshall's Jenny Johnson was honored as the Newcomer of the Year. SMU's Sascha Van den Branden was named the league's Freshman Swimmer of the Year.
