Women's Basketball Opens C-USA Championship Friday

ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Houston women's basketball team earned the No. 4 seed in the 2008 Conference USA Women's Basketball Championship and faces No. 5 Southern Miss Friday in the quarterfinals at 4:30 p.m. CST at New UCF Arena in Orlando, Fla.
Houston (15-14) and Southern Miss (18-12) faced each other once during the regular season in 2007-08. The Cougars knocked off the Golden Eagles 71-61 on Jan. 20 in Houston.

STORYLINES
- No. 4 Houston (15-15) faces No. 5 Southern Miss (18-12) in the C-USA Championship Quarterfinals Friday at 4:30 p.m.
- UH knocked off Southern Miss, 71-61, in Hofheinz Pavilion on Jan. 20.
- The Cougars earned a first-round bye in the C-USA Championship and the team's highest seeding since since 2005.
- Houston leads the all-time series 10-8 and has won four of the past five meetings.
- Southern Miss knocked off No. 12 UCF, 74-72, in the tournament's opening round Thursday.
- The two teams have faced off one on a neutral court, a 71-69 Southern Miss win on March 6, 2003 in the opening round of the C-USA Championship.
- The Cougars' 15 wins are the most since the 2004-05 season.
- UH's six road victories this season have already surpassed the team's road-win total (4) of the previous two seasons.
- Houston has never finished a season below .500 when recording six or more road wins.
- UH is 13-3 when holding its opponents under 70 points.
- Twiggy McIntyre (15.5 ppg), Tye Jackson (11.0) and Courtney Taylor (9.8) lead UH.
- Four UH players earned nods to the All-Conference USA squad, McIntyre (1st), Jackson (3rd), Cobilyn Hill (All-Freshman) and Taylor (All-Freshman). McIntyre, a first-team all-league pick, ranks fourth in C-USA in scoring and leads the league in three-pointers made per game (2.32).
- Jackson has averaged 5.9 assists and 5.5 rebounds per game in C-USA games. She was named C-USA POTW on Feb. 4 after averaging nearly a triple-double against Memphis and UAB.
- Jackson tallied the fourth triple-double in Conference USA and Cougar history with 11 points, a career-best 16 rebounds and 12 assists in an 80-76 overtime win at UAB.
- Taylor has averaged almost a double-double on the season (9.8/8.5).
- Houston head coach Joe Curl, who suffered a heart attack on Oct. 27, has been cleared to return to recruiting duties. No timetable has been set for his return to coaching.
