HOUSTON - University of Houston junior Andrea Pa'lmai and freshman Courtney Forcucci swept the Conference USA Swimmer and Diver of the Week honors, respectively, as announced by the league office Wednesday.
It marked the second time this season that the Cougars swept the league's weekly awards.
Pa'lmai was the Cougars' leading swimmer during dual meets at No. 6 Texas A&M and against New Orleans last week. Against the Aggies, the Budapest, Hungary, native finished second in the 400-yard individual medley, the fourth-fastest time in school history.
She was one of three swimmers to earn multiple-event wins against the Privateers during the Cougars' final regular-season meet of the season. Pa'lmai won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:56.12 and captured first place in the 200-yard backstroke with a clocking of 2:04.18, winning by more than 6.5 seconds.
It was the second weekly award of her career, her first in 2007-08.
Forcucci collects her second straight award and third overall honor in 2007 with a sweep at No. 6 Texas A&M. The Fort Mill, S.C, native enjoyed both of the Cougars' event wins against the Aggies. She posted 312.83 points on the 3-meter board to win by nearly 25 points and was the only diver to crack 300 points.
Forcucci also grabbed top honors on the 1-meter springboard with 284.62 points to win by more than 14 points.
Pa'lmai, Forcucci and their Cougar teammates return to action to play host to the 2008 Conference USA Championship and Invitational on Feb. 27-March 1 at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center Natatorium. Other teams participating in the Championship are defending champion SMU, Rice, East Carolina, Marshall, Cal State Bakersfield, and Northern Colorado.
