DALLAS - Twiggy McIntyre (Sapulpa, Okla./Sapulpa HS/Kansas State) was named to the Conference USA Women's Basketball All-Academic Team, the league office announced today.
McIntyre, a senior guard who carries a 3.71 GPA in her exercise science major, was joined on the seven-member team by Kadie Riverin (Rice), Tara Watts (Rice), Janielle Dodds (SMU), Liz Biland (Southern Miss), Kendra Reed (Southern Miss) and Natasha Lacy (UTEP).
McIntyre was named ESPN The Magazine First-Team All-District 6 earlier this month, the only honoree from C-USA. She is UH's leading scorer (15.3 ppg) and leads C-USA in free-throw percentage, knocking down 86.6 percent of her attempts. She also leads the league in three-pointers made per game (2.38) and won C-USA Player of the Week accolades twice.
Houston (15-14, 9-6 C-USA), who has clinched a top-four seed and first round bye in next week's C-USA Championship, finishes out the regular season Saturday, taking on Marshall at 1 p.m. CST on Guy V. Lewis Court at Hofheinz Pavilion.
The Marshall game will serve as senior day as Houston will recognize the contributions of its five-member senior class. Tye Jackson, Whitney James, McIntyre, Ryan Meyers and Alona Obaze will be honored on a pregame ceremony.
