HOUSTON - The University of Houston football team continued preparations to face Conference USA-rival No. 24 Tulsa at 7 p.m. Saturday, hitting the UH practice fields in shorts and shoulder pads on Wednesday.
The Cougars held an energetic workout in the cool Houston weather, practicing for nearly two hours.
"The team is very excited to get back out there and play in front of a national TV audience again this weekend," head coach Kevin Sumlin said. "We had a good crowd and good energy in the stadium last week and we're looking for that again on Saturday."
The Golden Hurricane comes to Robertson sitting atop the C-USA West Division standings with a 5-0 record, one game ahead of the Cougars.
Sumlin added that he believes the game will come down to big plays and how each team responds after getting knocked down.
"For us, the focus for us has not been about the opponent but about ourselves. If we can shore some things up and play with intensity for four quarters, like we did last week, we are capable of beating anyone on our schedule.
"The game will come down to big plays. In any good fight, there is going to be big plays and there will be big plays by both teams. There are going to be good times and bad times and it is going to be how you respond to those things when they happen and be able to counter-punch with them and eliminate turnovers."
Saturday's game can be heard live on 790 AM The Sports Animal with Tom Franklin calling the play-by-play action, David Klingler providing color analysis and Chuck Brown reporting from the sideline.
The game also will be broadcast to a national television audience on CBS College Sports (DirecTV channel 613/Dish Network 152) with Carter Blackburn calling the action and Dan Fouts providing the analysis.
