Swimming Travels to Southwestern to Compete in Dual Meet

HOUSTON--The University of Houston swimming team will travel to Georgetown, Texas Friday to compete against Southwestern in a dual, slated to begin at 5:30 p.m.
Houston is coming off a third-place finish in the North Texas Relays, on Oct. 3. Houston trailed SMU (132 pts.) and TCU (96 pts.) in the final standings, while outscoring North Texas (66 pts.) and Missouri State (56 pts.).
At the meet, the relay team of Jessica Shamburger, Andrea Pa'lmai and Paige Bissett gave Houston one of its three second place finish with a time of 2:58.46 in the 300-yard backstroke relay.
Brittany Copeland, Jessica Shamburger, Kimberley Eeson and Sasha Schwendenwein teamed to finish second with a time of 4:35.55 in the 500-yard freestyle relay. In the 1500-yard freestyle relay, Schwendenwein, Eeson and Olga Bordatcheva finished second with a time of 15:27.17.
The Cougars are 2-0 all-time against Southwestern. Last season, Houston beat the Pirates, 116-85 in a dual in Georgetown, Texas.
Against Southwestern last season, Paige Bissett, with her collegiate debut, won the 200-yard individual medley after a clocking of 2:19.08. The Rumson, N.J., native also finished first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:02.15.
Also competing in her first collegiate meet , Brittany Copeland won the 50-yard freestyle competition with a time of 25.71, while Andrea Kells won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 59.73. Jessica Shamburger took first place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56:11.
UH will play host to North Texas in their home season opener, beginning at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. This will be the second time this season that the two schools will meet. UH outscored North Texas 70-66 at the North Texas Relays.
