DALLAS - The University of Houston golf team stood in ninth place Monday after the first two rounds at the Baylor Intercollegiate.
The Cougars posted a first-round score of 305 in the morning round and bettered that by seven strokes in the afternoon session on the par-71, 7,068-yard course at Virginia Country Club.
Junior Ben Moser posted rounds of 73 and 74 to tie for 15th place after the first day. The Waterloo, Ontario, native tied for 15th in the individual standings in each of the Cougars' first two tournaments this season.
Other Cougars in action were senior Brady Shivers (150, t-25th), sophomore Matt Eschenburg (152, t-32nd), junior Jackie Lindsey (154, t-39th) and junior Corey Steger (163, t-61st).
Texas A&M grabbed the team lead after the first day with a score of 577. Lamar was a close second at 578 with Oklahoma (585). Arkansas (588) and host Baylor (590) rounding out the top-five leaders.
Bronson Burgoon of Texas A&M stood atop the individual leaderboard at 139, while Arkansas' Andrew Landry was in second at 1-under-par 141. BYU's Brady Johnson finished at even-par 142 to join Burgoon and Landry as the only players to finish at even-par or better.
The two-day tournament wraps up with the final 18 holes beginning at 8:30 a.m., Tuesday. Live stats are available at Golfstat.com.
The Cougars conclude their fall season at the Baylor Intercollegiate. UH doesn't return to action until it opens the spring season Feb. 16-17 at the Rice Intercollegiate.
