Women's Basketball Opens Conference Play This Weekend At Home

HOUSTON - The University of Houston women's basketball team opens up Conference USA play against UTEP at 7 p.m. CST Friday on Guy V. Lewis Court at Hofheinz Pavilion.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST Friday.

UH's homestand, it's longest since 1996, continues against Tulane (01/06) and Rice (01/13). Sunday's game against Tulane will be televised nationally by ESPN2.
STORYLINES
- UH (6-8) is playing its second game in three days after knocking off Lamar 82-75 in overtime Wed. at Hofheinz Pavilion.
- The Cougars, who trailed by 26 points, 48-22, with 18:46 left, overcame the second-largest deficit in NCAA Division I Women's Basketball history, ranking behind Texas State's 32-point comeback win over UTSA on Feb. 18, 2006.
- UH is 6-5 all-time in Conference USA openers and has won its first league game in five of the past six years.
- Tye Jackson (13.4 ppg) and Twiggy McIntyre (13.1 ppg) lead the way for Houston.
- Jackson, who recently became the 18th player in school history to break the 1,000-point plateau, appears on watch lists for the Lowe's Senior CLASS and Naismith Awards.
- Houston head coach Joe Curl, who suffered a heart attack on Oct. 27, continues to recover at his Houston home. No timetable has been set for his return and assistant coach Danny Hughes will serve as the interim head coach for the foreseeable future.
- UTEP (9-2) is led by Jareica Hughes (12.9 ppg), Natasha Lacy (11.7), Izabela Piekarska (11.3) and Kasia Krezel (10.7).
- The Miners enter on a five-game winning streak.
