HOUSTON - The University of Houston football team practiced outside, Thursday, for just the second time this week. Rain forced the Cougars to practice most of the week inside the Bill Yeoman Field House.
After starting practice flat in Wednesday UH came out and had a good practice today.
"We had a lot better practice today. We had a lot better focus, good intensity and good toughness. We got through the week. We worked on ourselves and now we can gear up and work on Tulane," head coach Art Briles said.
After spending most of their bye week indoors, Briles was eager to get his team out in the Houston heat.
"It was much needed. It's good to get outside and get in the environment and sweat a little bit."
The game in New Orleans will be indoors but we have had a lot of practice indoors this fall so far so we feel good about where we are so far in that stage," Briles said.
With an extra week to prepare for their conference opener, Briles and the Cougars have plenty of motivation to get them through another week of practice.
"The motivation is that we are defending our conference championship and this is a conference game. That's the thing that motivates us. Plus, we want to get the bad taste out of our mouths. We want to feel good about what we are doing and we have that opportunity at Tulane," Briles said.
Houston continues its season at 6 p.m., Sept. 15, when they open Conference USA play at Tulane in the Louisiana Superdome. Fans can hear the game live on 790 AM The Sports Animal with Tom Franklin calling the play-by-play action, Ted Pardee providing color analysis and Chuck Brown reporting from the sideline. The pre-game show is slated to begin one hour before kickoff. Fans also can follow live stats over the Internet by clicking the "Gametracker" link at UHCougars.com.
