DALLAS - Recent University of Houston graduate Sarah Fisher (Katy, Texas/Cypress Springs HS), a former soccer player, was awarded one of 12 Conference USA Postgraduate Scholarships, C-USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky announced today.
The league annually presents the $4,000 awards to graduates as selected by the Faculty Athletics Representatives and approved by the Board of Directors.
Fisher was a four-year letterwinner for the Cougars, serving as captain her junior and senior seasons and earning MVP honors as a freshman. A four-time selection to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and Academic Medal winner, Fisher graduated from UH Summa Cum Laude. She earned her Bachelor of Science in biochemistry and has been accepted to the University of Texas at Austin doctoral program in pharmacy.
Fisher was the fourth-leading scorer on the 2006 team with three goals, three assists and nine points. She started in all 19 games at forward and started in all 74 games through her career, only one of six players in UH history to make 70 or more starts. She was an ESPN The Magazine First Team Academic All-District VI selection in 2005 and a second team honoree in 2006. She was also named to the inaugural C-USA All-Academic Soccer squad in 2006.
