Swimming and Diving in Third Place at C-USA Championship

HOUSTON - University of Houston sophomore Anastasia Pozdniakova scored 366.75 points to take an easy win on the 3-meter springboard Thursday during the second day of the 2007 Conference USA Women's Swimming and Diving Championship and Men's Invitational at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center Natatorium.
Pozdniakova, a native of Elektrostal, Russia, more than 75 points ahead of her closest competitor to win the first C-USA championship of her collegiate career. A year ago, the reigning C-USA Freshman Diver of the Year finished second in all three diving events.
Teammate and swimming senior captain Szintia Szanto finished second in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:03.11, the third-fastest time in UH history. The Budapest, Hungary, native now owns nine of the Top 10 fastest times in school history in that event.
After the second day, the Cougars stood in third place with 192 points. SMU, the defending women's champion, held the lead with 298 points, while Rice was second with 212 points. East Carolina (182) and Marshall (105) rounded out the rest of the women's field.
On the men's side, defending champion SMU held the led with 309 points and was followed by Hawai'i (288) and East Carolina (221).
The meet continues at 10 a.m., Friday with the preliminaries of the 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke and 100-yard backstroke. The preliminaries of the 3-meter women's diving and the 1-meter men's diving are scheduled to start at 1 p.m. with the finals of all events beginning at 6 p.m.

Tickets can be bought near the front of the CRWC Natatorium beginning one hour prior to the meet. All-session passes are available for $25 for adults or $10 for students with valid ID. Day tickets can be purchased for $10 for adults and $5 for students with ID. Students from any C-USA school with a valid free will be admitted free to the meet.
Fans can buy an official C-USA meet program and that session's heat sheet for only $5. Fans who buy a program and present it to sellers prior to each session can purchase additional heat sheets for future sessions for only $3 each.
