HOUSTON - 2006 Houston Cougars Football Postgame Notes
Tulane Green Wave (0-1, 0-1 C-USA) at Houston Cougars (2-0, 2-0 C-USA)

** With Saturday's win, the Cougars improved to 2-0 to open the season... It marked the first time since 1990 that the Cougars won their first two games of a season... That 1990 UH squad opened the year 8-0.
** With Saturday's win, the Cougars also moved to 2-0 in Conference USA play... It marked the first time since 2003 that the Cougars won their first two games to open league play.
** Houston improved to 8-4 (.667) in the all-time series against Tulane... With the win, the Cougars extended their winning streak over the Cougars to four straight games... It was the Cougars' biggest win over the Green Wave since taking a 47-7 decision over Tulane in the 1973 Bluebonnet Bowl on Dec. 29, 1973.
** Houston improved to 75-64-1 (.539) all-time against Conference USA opponents.
** Houston improved to 74-84-4 (.469) in the month of September.
** Houston improved to 19-10 (.655) all-time against teams from the state of Louisiana.
** Houston improved to 1-3 (.250) all-time when playing on Sept. 9.
** The Cougar defense has allowed only 10 points in the last six quarters.
** Senior quarterback Kevin Kolb (350 passing yards), junior wide receiver Anthony Alridge (155 rushing yards) and senior wide receiver Vincent Marshall (119 receiving yards) gave the Cougars their first 300-yard passer, 100-yard rusher and 100-yard receiver in the same game since Kolb (315 passing yards), Ryan Gilbert (144 rushing yards) and Marshall (129 receiving yards) accomplished the feat against Southern Miss on Nov. 13, 2005.
** With 621 yards of total offense, the Cougars topped the 600-yard mark for the first since recording 647 yards against Army on Sept. 18, 2004... It also marked the 25th time under head coach Art Briles that the Cougars recorded more than 400 yards of total offense in a game.
** The Cougars' 38-point win was the team's biggest since a 45-0 win over Louisiana-Lafayette on Sept. 18, 1999.
** The Cougars' 45 points scored was the most since scored 48 points in a triple-overtime loss at Hawai'i during the 2003 Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl on Dec. 25, 2003... It was the most points scored by the Cougars in regulation since a 56-28 win over C-USA rival UAB on Nov. 29, 2003 during the regular-season finale.
** With a touchdown on their opening drive, the Cougars scored a TD on their opening drive for the second consecutive game... UH has outscored its opponents 28-0 in the first quarter through the first two games this season.
** With 350 passing yards, senior quarterback Kevin Kolb moved past David Klingler (9,430 yards, 1988-91) and set a UH career record in passing yards... Kolb finished the night with 9,738 passing yards during his career.
** With 361 yards of total offense (350 passing, 11 rush), senior quarterback Kevin Kolb moved past 10,000 yards of total offense during his career... Kolb now has 10,335 yards of total offense (9,738 passing, 597 rushing) during his career... The Stephenville, Texas, native already ranks as the UH career leader in that category.
** With three touchdown passes, senior quarterback Kevin Kolb recorded his second straight game in 2006 with multi-TD passes and the 19th multi-touchdown game of his career... It was his second consecutive game in 2006 and the seventh time during this career that he threw at least three TD passes in a game.
** With 350 passing yards, senior quarterback Kevin Kolb recorded his first 300-yard passing game of the 2006 season and the 12th 300-yard passing game of his career... It also was the fourth-highest single-game total in his career.
** Senior quarterback Kevin Kolb's 32-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Vincent Marshall was the 20th time that those two players connected on a touchdown during their collegiate careers... That set a UH combo record, breaking the previous high of 19 set by quarterback Andre Ware and wide receiver Manny Hazard during the 1989 season.
** Senior quarterback Kevin Kolb made the 38th consecutive start of his career.
** With 155 rushing yards, junior wide receiver Anthony Alridge recorded the first 100-yard rushing game of his career... He topped his previous best of 20 yards set against Sam Houston State on Sept. 10, 2005.
** Junior wide receiver Anthony Alridge's 87-yard touchdown run at the 12:39 mark of the fourth quarter was the third-longest run from scrimmage in UH history... Only Antowain Smith's 96-yard touchdown run vs. Pittsburgh (Sept. 14, 1996) and Donnie McGraw's 91-yard TD run against Rice (Sept. 14, 1974) ranked longer.
** With 119 receiving yards, senior wide receiver Vincent Marshall recorded his first 100-yard receiving game of the 2006 season and the 13th 100-yard receiving game during his career... That total ranks as the third most in UH career history, trailing only the 14 100-yard games by Manny Hazard (1989-90) and Elmo Wright (1968-70)
** With six receptions, senior wide receiver Vincent Marshall moved past 200 receptions during his career, becoming only the fourth player in school history to reach that milestone... He finished the game with 204 catches during his career... Marshall joined Jason Phillips (207 receptions, 1987-88), Manny Hazard (220, 1989-90) and Orlando Igelsias (222, 1997-01).
** With 119 receiving yards, senior wide receiver Vincent Marshall moved past Brandon Middleton (2,873 yards, 1999-03) into second place in UH career history with 2,954 yards... Up next in the UH records book is Brandon Middleton, who set a UH record with 2,873 receiving yards from 1999-03.
** With 144 all-purpose yards (6 rushing, 119 receiving, 19 returns), senior wide receiver Vincent Marshall moved past Elmo Wright (3,246 yards, 1969-71) into seventh place in UH career history with 3,608 all-purpose yards (246 rush, 2,954 receiving, 186 kickoff return, 219 punt return)... Up next in the UH records book is Elmo Wright, who set a UH record with 3,482 all-purpose yards from 1968-70.
** With his reception on the Cougars' opening drive, senior wide receiver Vincent Marshall recorded a reception in his 38th consecutive game.
** Sophomore tight end Mark Hafner's reception at the 4:51 mark of the first quarter was the first of his career... Senior tight end Rodney Hannah's reception around the 6:30 mark of the second quarter was the first of his career... Hannah had not played football since 2001 as a high school senior.
** Sophomore safety Ernest Miller's interception around the 14:15 mark of the third quarter was his team-leading second pickoff of the 2006 season... It also was the second turnover of which he was a part after forcing and recovering a fumble earlier in the game.
** With three catches for 50 yards, senior wide receiver Biren Ealy set personal UH single-game highs in both categories... His totals topped his previous high of one catch for 10 yards against Rice on Sept. 2, 2006... Ealy's 20 -yard reception in the first quarter also was a personal single-game best at UH.
** Junior wide receiver Perry McDaniel made his first career punt return around the 1:30 mark of the third quarter.
** FIRST STARTS: Senior wide receiver Biren Ealy made his first start as a Cougar... Senior running back Roshawn Pope made his first career start as a running back... Pope made previous starts at cornerback during his first four seasons at UH.
