HOUSTON - The University of Houston football team wrapped up preparations for this weekend's showdown against Oklahoma State with a vigorous, two-hour workout inside the Yeoman Fieldhouse.
Working out in shorts and helmets for about two hours, the Cougars players and coaches moved inside the friendly confines of the Yeoman Fieldhouse after heavy rain moved through downtown Houston in the late morning. It marked the third consecutive week that the Cougars were forced to move indoors at least one day because of the weather.
However, Briles said the change had little impact on the way that his Cougar squad performed during practice.
"I like our mental awareness, our mental focus and our grit," head coach Art Briles said following practice. "We have some tough guys. It gives me a comfortable feeling because football is a tough game. We have tough guys playing it."
After enduring a tough workout, the Cougar offense wrapped up the session with a light-hearted drill in which the receivers and backs blocked and the offensive linemen, under the leadership of signal-caller Sterling Doty, ran the routes and caught passes to the amusement of their defensive teammates.
The Cougars continue their 2006 season when they face Oklahoma State at 8 p.m., Saturday at John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium. That game can be heard live on ESPN 790 AM with the pregame show beginning one hour before kickoff. Tom Franklin will handle the play-by-play duties, while former record-setting UH quarterback David Klingler will provide color analysis. Former All-Southwest Conference center Chuck Brown serves as the sideline reporter.

Saturday's game also can be seen live nationally on CSTV, beginning at 8 p.m., with Carter Blackburn calling the play-by-play action and Brian Jones serving as color analyst. This will be the second of five times in 2006 that the Cougars will play on television.
Saturday's game features a pair of undefeated teams who will be looking for their fourth consecutive win to open the 2006 campaign. After leading his team to a 3-0 start for the first time since 1990, Briles said he and his squad weren't looking for any accolades just yet.
"We're certainly not where we need to be. We're rolling along there decently, but it's not like we are looking for someone to hug us," Briles said. "We haven't done anything. We've played three football games; we've won three football games. That's not what we planned to do when we opened up the season. We want to win more than three football games."
