HOUSTON - Former University of Houston football player Maurice Bryant, portrayed former Dallas Cowboys receiver Drew Pearson in the recently released Disney/NFL film "Invincible."
The film, which opened August 25, is the story of former Philadelphia Eagle player Vince Papale. Papale, played by Mark Wahlberg, joined the Eagles in 1976 after an open tryout held by coach Dick Vermeil. He played for three seasons on special teams. Following Papale's retirement, Vermeil credited him with reversing the losing attitude in the Eagles' locker room.
Mark Ellis of ReelSports coordinated the football scenes in the movie and many of the players in the film are active Arena Football League players. The AFL players participated in a two-week pre-filming training camp and participated in offensive, defensive and special teams preparations similar to a real training camp.
Bryant was two-time letterwinner for the Cougars in 1996 and 1997 and was a member of the 1996 St. Jude Liberty Bowl team. He is now a member of the AFL Philadelphia Soul.
