HOUSTON, Texas - In its final Saturday preparation of preseason camp, the University of Houston spent over two hours working out indoors, as the Cougars begin their focus on the season opener against Rice on September 2 at Rice Stadium.
"We were forced inside because of the weather," said UH head coach Art Briles. "Right now, we're just polishing things up. We're trying to get our minds focused (for Rice). We need to make sure we understand what is going on on both sides of the ball and special teams.
"We've had plenty of opportunities to work out. (This practice) is just another one in the book that gets us closer to the game."
After the workout the Cougars spent time mingling and meeting UH fans, alumni and supporters in the annual Football Fan Appreciation Day in the Athletics/Alumni Center. With the UH Band and Cheerleaders present, several hundred Cougar Faithful braved the inclement weather to spend time with the 2006 Cougar Football team.
This did not go unnoticed by Briles.
"We are very thankful for the support we get from our fans," added Briles. "We have worked hard to make people proud of the University of Houston, and our players enjoy spending time to thank them for their support."
The Cougars return to the practice fields on Tuesday with the first of three grueling workouts penciled in leading up the Bayou Bucket clash with the Owls. Game time is set for 8 pm at Rice Stadium, and the game is being televised live on CSTV.
