IRVING - After leading their respective teams to a 2-0 record in conference play last week, Houston senior forward Ramon Dyer and Tulane senior center Quincy Davis have been named co-Conference USA Men's Basketball Players of the Week for the period ending February 5.
Dyer recorded back to back double-double performances, while averaging 13.5 points, 14.0 rebounds and two steals in Houston's victories against UTEP and East Carolina. He began the week registering 10 points and 10 rebounds in Houston's 63-57 victory to help the Cougars hand the Miners their first C-USA loss. Then, he scored 17 points and grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds in UH's overtime victory while out-rebounding C-USA's rebounding leader Corey Rouse. He also tied for the team lead with three steals against the Pirates and didn't have any turnovers in two games.
Davis led the Green Wave to a pair of victories this week, averaging 19.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game while shooting 58.3 percent (14-of-24) from the field. He scored a season-high 25 points in the win over SMU and then added 13 to go with his 500th career rebound in a dominating victory over Marshall. The Wave has now won three in a row and four out of five. Davis now needs 32 points to become Tulane's 28th 1,000-point scorer.
This is the second time this season that Dyer has been named co-Player of the Week. He shared honors with Rodney Carney of Memphis on January 9.
Davis is the first Tulane player to earn C-USA Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors since Jan. 20, 1997 when Jerald Honeycutt took home the weekly award.
