HOUSTON (AP) -- Oliver Lafayette scored 16 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, to help lead Houston to a 63-57 win over Texas-El Paso on Wednesday night.

Lanny Smith and Chris Lawson each added 12 points for the Cougars (13-6, 4-3 Conference USA). Ramon Dyer had the team's only double-double -- scoring 10 points, including three 3-pointers, and grabbing a team-high 10 rebounds.

Houston, which led 31-24 at the half, turned the ball over only 10 times compared to UTEP's 21 times.

Edgar Moreno scored 18 points, including seven from the free-throw line, for the Miners (12-6, 5-1). John Tofi added 10 points and had a team-high 16 rebounds.
