STOCKTON, Calif. - Justine Farmer smashed 28 kills on a .308 attack percentage to go along with 25 digs, but the University of Houston volleyball team lost a 3-1 decision at Pacific (30-27, 31-33, 31-33, 21-30) in the consolation match of the Bankers Classic at the Spanos Center in front of 1,170 fans on the UOP campus.
Farmer compiled her league-leading 26th double-double of the season, but fell one kill shy of equaling Jennifer Wittenburg's (2001) single season program record.
Kelly McAnelly added 20 kills and 14 digs, while Becca Sartori notched 19 kills on a .350 attack clip. Millicent Martin tallied six kills and 10 digs. The trio of Houston natives were playing their final matches as Cougars.
Krystal Schulle passed out a career-best 71 assists and corralled 10 digs. The Cougars (19-17) also got 14 digs from Ashley Calhoun at the libero position.
The Pacific (8-21) offense connected at a .350 attack clip and was paced by Alexa Anderson, who cranked 35 kills on a .493 attack percentage. Johanna Hilbers chipped in 18 kills on a .333 clip.
The two teams put on an offensive show in the opening game. Houston popped 23 kills on a match-best .524 hitting percentage, while Pacific notched 19 kills at a .333 mark. McAnelly carried the Cougar offense with 11 kills in the frame, while Sartori added three blocks for a 30-27 win.
Game two provided plenty of excitement with 22 ties and six lead changes. The Cougars had three chances to take a two-game advantage, but Pacific answered each time with a critical sideout. An attack error by McAnelly coupled with an Anderson kill gave the Tigers a 33-31 win.
Houston looked to regain the momentum in the third game. The Cougars held a 29-25 lead, but three Houston attack errors in addition to a trio of Anderson kills gave Pacific another 33-31 victory.
The Tigers closed the door by scoring 19 of the first 24 points of game four. Houston charged back and got to within 27-20, but Pacific went back to Anderson for the final margin of 30-21.
