HOUSTON - The University of Houston football team began preparations for this weekend's Conference USA showdown against UCF with a spirited workout Tuesday afternoon on the UH practice fields.
The Cougars (5-3, 3-1 C-USA) worked out for about two-and-a-half hours outdoors before head coach Art Briles and his staff called it a day.
The Cougars compete in their in next-to last, regular-season home game when they face Conference USA rival UCF at 2:30 p.m., Saturday at John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium. The game can be heard live on 790 AM The Sports Animal with the pregame show beginning one hour before kickoff. Tom Franklin will handle the play-by-play duties, while former record-setting UH quarterback David Klingler will provide color analysis. Former All-Southwest Conference center Chuck Brown serves as the sideline reporter.
All Cougar Football games can be heard live on the Internet by logging onto www.UHCougars.com.
Saturday's game also will be televised live on CSTV (DirecTV Ch. 610) with Tom Hart calling the play-by-play action and Trev Alberts as the color analyst.
The Cougars come into the game after an impressive 34-17 win over league foe UTEP last weekend at Robertson Stadium. After heading into the locker on the wrong side of a 17-10 halftime score, the Cougar defense burst out the locker room, limiting the Miners to only 33 second-half yards.
"I am very proud of our players for getting us the win," Briles said. "What we have to remember as a team and as coaches is how we were able to win the other night. It's because of our attitude, work ethic and approach."
