HOUSTON, Texas - For the first time during preseason practice the University of Houston football team strapped on full pads for a workout, hitting the practice fields for over two hours this afternoon on the UH campus.
Even though most drills were done a 3/4 speed, UH head coach Art Briles always looks forward to the day his unit can practice in full gear. Still, Briles enjoyed what he say this afternoon.
"It was a good, spirited workout," said Briles. "This is five days in a row, (and) there is still a lot of spirit, a lot of good attitude and we wouldn't expect anything less.
"We've liked this team all along. We've liked their chemistry, and they haven't done anything to change (our perception)."
The entire squad, including veterans and newcomers, have impressed Briles and his staff so far this camp, but a few have caught his eye.
"Right now, (senior tight end) John McGilvray is really having a good fall camp," added Briles. `The defense is really flying around, and the offensive line is being active. So those are areas we have to be good in, and those are areas we will be good in."
The Cougars return to practice fields for Day Six tomorrow at 4:30 pm on the UH Practice Fields.
