HOUSTON, Texas - Senior defensive end Kade Lane (Houston, Texas) today was named the Conference USA Defensive Player-of-the-Week for his performance in the Cougars' 27-24 win over Southern Miss on Sunday, November 13.
Starting in his 45th consecutive game, Lane turned in a career performance in leading the defensive charge for the Cougars. Lane registered a career-high seven tackles, including one for a loss and two pass breakups in holding the Southern Miss rushing attack to just 24 yards on 26 carries and just 319 yards of total offense.
His biggest play was the last play he made, as Lane recovered a Dustin Almond fumble to thwart a Southern Miss rally. The Cougars just ran out the clock from that point on.
Last season Lane was named to the Conference USA Third Team after recording 52 tackles while starting all 11 games. Since debuting as a true freshman in 2002, Lane has started and played in every contest, starting at defensive end, defensive tackle and nose guard during that span.
Rice's John Wall was the C-USA Offensive Player-of-the-Week, while Matt Prater of UCF was the C-USA Special Teams Player-of-the-Week.
The Cougars continue their quest to become bowl eligible by playing host to SMU this Saturday, November 19, at 5 pm at John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium.
