Cougars' Quest For The Crown Begins Sunday

HOUSTON, Texas - Fresh of its first winning season in four years and its first bowl appearance since 1996, the University of Houston football team kicks off its quest for the Conference USA crown this Sunday, August 8, when both newcomers and Cougar veterans report to fall camp. Entering his second season at the helm of his alma mater, UH head coach Art Briles has a wide smile on his face when talking about this season. "We're very excited about getting out here and getting going," said Briles. "We're anxious to get around our players, and making sure everyone is focused and pointed in the same direction. "So, (Sunday) is going to be an exciting day for us, and we ready to start off the 2004 season." Two days of orientation await the 2004 squad before the entire team takes part in its first practice at 4:05 pm on Tuesday, August 10. The Cougars will have just one practice a day until two-a-days officially begin on Monday, August 16. Houston then will have just one week of "double days" before settling in for their regular routine once the first day of school rolls around on Monday, August 23. Houston kicks off the 2004 season with the annual Administaff Bayou Bucket against Rice on Sunday, September 5, in Reliant Stadium. The Cougars first home game is September 18, when UH plays host to C-USA foe Army at 7 pm at John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium.
