Englebert Cherrington Signs With Houston

University of Houston head basketball coach Tom Penders announced that 6-7 forward Englebert Cherrington of Midland College has signed a national letter of intent to play for the Cougars in 2004-05.
"We are very pleased to have Englebert Cherrington join our program," Penders said. "He is a strong, athletic and physical player who can finish plays around the basket. He also is an outstanding student as well."
Cherrington is the first player to sign with Houston since Penders was named head coach on March 23, 2004. He comes to UH after helping lead Midland to a 30-7 overall record and a third place finish at the NJCAA National Tournament in 2003-04. The Chaparrals also won the Western Junior College Athletic Conference with a 13-1 mark and the NJCAA Region V Tournament championship.
A native of Belize City, Belize, Cherrington earned All-WJCAC honors after averaging 10.4 points and ranking 17th nationally with 10.2 rebounds per game. He earned honorable mention all-conference honors as a freshman after starting 15 of Midland's 24 games and averaging 9.3 points and 5.1 rebounds per contest.
