HOUSTON - University of Houston freshman Anna Kiess was honored Tuesday as the Conference USA Diver of the Week.
Kiess was the Cougars' leading diver in a dual-meet loss at Arkansas last weekend. The Berlin, Germany, native claimed top honors on the platform with a conference-best score of 416.475 points.
She followed that with a second-place finish on the 3-meter springboard with 286.95 points, setting a new personal single-meet best.
It was the first time in Kiess' collegiate career that she won the league's weekly honor but was the fifth time that a Cougar diver walked away with the award this season. Sophomore Azul Almazan has been named C-USA Diver of the Week four times in 2003-04.
Kiess and her Cougar teammates return this weekend with their final two home dual meets of the season. UH plays host to SMU at 7 p.m., Friday, and closes out the regular season at 11:30 a.m., Saturday against Texas A&M.
Both meets will be held at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center Natatorium on the UH campus. The meets are free and open to the public.
