HONOLULU, Hawai'i - The University of Houston swimming and diving team begins its winter training at 5 p.m. (CST) Friday when it competes at the Duke Kahanamoku Sprint Meet at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
This will be the first meet for the Cougars since falling to Kansas and Harvard in a tri-meet on Dec. 3-4 in Lawrence, Kan. To date, the Cougars have posted a 2-5 overall record in dual meets.
Senior captain Kristin Bay remains one of the team leaders and has posted UH season-best times in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke.
Sophomore Szintia Szanto has emerged as one of the Cougars and Conference USA's finest performers. To date, the Budapest, Hungary, native has recorded season-best times for the Cougars in the 100- and 200-yard butterfly, 100- and 200-yard breaststroke and 200- and 400-yard individual medley.
Once the Cougars have finished at Friday's meet, their stay in the Aloha State will last a little longer. From there, UH meets Arkansas and Pacific on Monday in a tri-meet in Honolulu. The time for that meet has not been set.
