HOUSTON - The University of Houston Swimming & Diving team continues its 2004 fall season at two different locations this weekend.
The swimmers will welcome Rice, Incarnate Word and New Orleans to the UH Fall Invitational at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center Natatorium. That meet begins Friday and runs through Sunday.
The preliminaries each day will begin at 10 a.m. The finals are slated to start at 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday with the finals on Sunday to start at 5 p.m.
The meet is free and open to the public, which is invited to attend.
For Cougar fans, this weekend's home meet will be the last time to see UH in action until the team plays host to both Texas A&M and Miami (Fla.) on Feb. 5 at the CRWC Natatorium.
Meanwhile, the divers will head a little north to compete at the Texas A&M Invitational at the Student Rec Center Natatorium, starting Friday and running through Sunday.
The Cougars come into the meets on the heels of a 153-62 win at Louisiana-Monroe on Nov. 13. That win was the second straight for UH on a road trip across north Louisiana. UH claimed a 116-50 win over Centenary on Nov. 12.
Sophomore diver Anna Kiess has been the winningest performer for the Cougars this season. The Berlin, Germany, native has won all eight collegiate diving events in which she competed in 2004 and has posted Conference USA's highest scores on both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards.
In fact, Cougar divers can boast of the Top Three scores in C-USA this season. In addition to Kiess, teammates Azul Almazan and Rachel Gitelson are 2-3 among C-USA diving leaders in 2004-05.
On the swimming side, sophomore Szintia Szanto continues to lead the Cougars and rank among the league's best. This season, the Budapest, Hungary, native ranks among the Top Three swimmers in the 200-yard individual medley, 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard butterfly.
Senior captain Kristin Bay leads all C-USA swimmers in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 58.72 earlier this season.
