Swimming & Diving Wins Three of Four Meets on Sunday

BISCAYNE BAY, Fla. - The University of Houston swimming and diving program wrapped up a successful weekend in Florida by winning three of four dual meets at the Bay Vista Aquatics Center on the Florida International Biscayne Bay campus.
For the second straight day, the Cougars upended host FIU 72-41 and added 83-30 and 74-39 wins over Cleveland State and North Florida, respectively. Brown handed the Cougars their only loss of the day with a 71-42 decision.
With those wins, the Cougars improved to 8-6 overall in NCAA dual meets this season. That's the highest dual meet win total for UH since the 1999-00 squad posted an 8-7 record and ties as the highest total in school single-season history.
Cougar divers dominated their respective events with a pair of first-place finishes. Freshman Anna Kiess took top honors on the 1-meter board with 258.75 points and finished third in the 3-meter event.
Roles were reversed on the 3-meter board as sophomore Azul Almazan captured first place with 278.25 points and finished third in the 1-meter event.
Freshman Szintia Szanto finished second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.98, only one-hundredth of a second behind the first-place finisher. The Budapest, Hungary, native finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke, only three-hundredths behind first place.
Junior Kristin Bay finished second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.82, only two-hundredths behind first place.
Senior co-captain Lucile Turpin finished third in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:38.54.
The Cougars' 200-yard medley relay team of Kristin Bay, Kristina DeWitt, Kat Lau and Christina White earned a second-place finish with a time of 1:51.65. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Laura Starr, Haley Menard, Stacey Williams and Bay took second place with a time of 1:41.26.
The Cougars return to action at 7 p.m., Friday, when they travel north on Interstate 45 to meet Conference USA rival TCU in Fort Worth, Texas.
