HOUSTON - University of Houston diver Yulia Pakhalina was honored for the sixth time this season as the Conference USA Diver of the Week on Tuesday.
The Penza, Russia, collected the honor for the fourth straight week and the 11th time during her distinguished career. It also marked the seventh straight week that a UH diver won the award as freshman Azul Almazan claimed the prize on Nov. 18.
Pakhalina captured first place on both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events at No. 23 Texas A&M last weekend. Against the Aggies, she was the Cougars' leading scorer, scoring 321.07 points on the 3-meter board and 346.12 points in the 1-meter competition.
She was the only diver to top the 300.00-point mark in each event. In addition, Pakhalina extended her winning streak on the 3-meter board to 29 consecutive events and collected the 57th and 58th diving wins of her career in only 60 outings.
Pakhalina and her Cougar teammates will take a break from competition before returning to action on Feb. 23-25 at the C-USA Championships in Indianapolis, Ind. There, she will look to defend her league titles on the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards and the platform.
East Carolina's Diane Parker was honored as the C-USA Swimmer of the Week on Tuesday.
